In order to portray the viewpoint of an "opposing" character from The Great Gatsby, the following comic depicts George Wilson, Myrtle Wilson's husband, in the moments immediately after Myrtle's death. Because Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby, is both Daisy's cousin and Gatsby's friend, George is an excellent antagonistic viewpoint to highlight because he quickly becomes their enemy once he believes Gatsby is the murderer. Considering the mindset and deeper thought processes of a character who remains fairly "surface level" within the actual novel requires students to pick up on subtle instances of characterization as they explore the text. These considerations in turn allow students to practice making inferences and think creatively.
